About Spirited Exploration

Hey Explorers! I’m Tera. I’m a registered nurse and the writer behind Spirited Exploration. I’m a small-town Mississippi girl with a craving for the world as big as the sky. The two greatest passions of my life are helping others and of course, travel. Spirited Exploration is the love child born of those two great passions.

Spirited Exploration is travel blog focusing on inspiring others and making travel a real possibility for everyone. Whether you are a caregiver to a child with special needs such as autism or Down Syndrome (like my youngest brother Austin); or you, yourself, have just always wanted to see the world; this is the place for you. Maybe you’re a single female and you want to travel, but worry about going alone. Maybe you have a family at home and just can’t imagine dragging a husband and three kids across Asia. No matter what your story is; this is the place for you.

What was the inspiration for Spirited Exploration?

I have had a love affair with the world for as long as I can remember. My dad had a job working overseas, and I grew up thriving on his stories of Egypt and Spain and so many other incredible places. His stories molded into this unnatural obsession of guidebooks and the travel channel that no child of 10 should have. Add that to the countless notebooks of stories and poems and anyone would have told you I was destined to be a journalist.

Well, that was not to be. After changing my major a few times and finally shadowing a nurse for research for a paper I was writing, I went to nursing school and never looked back. I worked everything from ICU to Labor and Delivery which is where I found my home. It was also at the local hospital I met Chris. He became my work buddy, my best friend, and then my husband in 2015.

After a year of marriage, I dragged Chris across the Atlantic to Ireland and England. Neither of us had ever been on a plane, much less to a different country. I thought I had the travel bug before that. HA! Not even close! Every sense was electrified as if I was experiencing each one for the first time. The Irish air smelled sweeter. The Guinness tasted stronger. The views from the London Eye were the most breathtaking sights I had ever experienced. I was awestruck.

After racing around two countries for over a week, I knew I was hooked. The feeling was so addictive, Ben and Jerry’s didn’t even stand a chance. All I wanted to do was tell everyone about my adventure. I guess that Blarney Stone does work after all. After that week, I made it my mission to share my experiences and inspire others to travel. I want people to open their hearts and fill their lives with moments that you just can’t get unless you get out of your comfort zone.

I work full time, I have a husband. I want kids. I’m a female traveler. There are so many reasons that people say you can’t do it. I want to show you that you absolutely can.

So If you have a passion for travel, and are ready to take the plunge, join me on my travels, and let me help make those dreams a reality with stories, travel tips, and inspiration for your next adventure.
